You can join the Texas Bluebird Society for one year with a $20 donation and receive a beautiful cedar nestbox and lots of information on raising and enjoying bluebirds! TBS volunteers will be glad to help you and answer questions. And, please don't forget that donations are always accepted and appreciated! Wingding! has been an annual tradition at Dinosaur Valley State Park since 2016. After an interruption in 2020 due to Covid, it was brought back in 2021. Come this year for family friendly activities at one of the Metroplex's most popular State Parks. Wingding! will celebrate Spring and 100 years of Texas State Parks. Expect to see interactive exhibits about birds, bats, insects, and plants. There will be an art contest, crafts, and activities such as guided hikes and birdhouse building. Food and drinks will be available from a variety of food trucks.

The Ellis County Master Gardeners begin this year's gardening season with their 22nd annual Lawn & Garden Expo. The Expo will focus on wildflowers. Ellis County Master Gardeners will share tips for creating home wildflower gardens. There will be over 100 booths featuring plant sales, gardening experts who will answer your questions, and children's workshops and activities.

It includes how to provide food and shelter for the 'bluebird of happiness,' and how to truly make your observations count for science.

Join us at Wills Point, the Bluebird Capital of Texas, for the 27th Annual Bluebird Festival. Texas Bluebird Society will be in Booths BB and 57.
From the Bluebird Bus Tour Depot near the train depot, Paul Nelson will lead free bus tours to see bluebird nestboxes at Lake Tawakoni State Park. Watch for bluebirds along the beautiful route while listening to a presentation about Eastern Bluebirds in Texas.
The bus will be departing every 90 minutes, starting at 9:00 am, with the last tour at 1:30 pm. Ticket distribution will begin at 8:45 am.

The Denton Redbud Festival is an Arbor Day celebration that promotes community beautification as part of Keep Denton Beautiful. It goes back to the thirties when Texas Women's University held festivals for tree planting and campus beautification. The current festival was begun in 1994 when Denton was named the Redbud Capital of Texas.
Festival visitors will find many vendors with trees, plants, and gardening products for home beautification. Other home products and hand-made crafts will also be featured. There will be family-friendly activities including Kids' Zone with bounce houses, face painting, and live music from local musicians. Admission is free.

Lonnie Castleman is currently involved in all things "Bluebird". He serves as host for membership booths at various functions, is a tour guide at the Willis Point Bluebird Festival, he maintains 50 bluebird boxes, and monitors and reports findings via the Nestwatch program at Cornell University.

The festival is free and family oriented.

The refuge is located on the southern tip of the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma. Thousands of Snow and Ross's geese and numerous species of ducks spend the winter at Hagerman. A resident pair of Bald Eagles and numerous hawks may be seen, and those wanting to take self-guided birding walks may see a number of different sparrow species, woodpeckers and more.

Bluebirds are feeding nestlings in several nestboxes, so every visitor should see a bluebird (weather permitting).
TBS volunteers will be available to interpret bluebird activity at nearby bluebird nestboxes. Too, volunteers will distribute TBS membership forms and free copies of the TPWD booklet, "Bluebirds in Texas", which includes plans for a bluebird nestbox well-suited for Texas conditions.
Take State Highway 47 North through Wills Point to FM 2475 and continue for approximately 4 miles.

The SFA gardens at Stephen F. Austin University will host its monthly Theresa and Lee Reeves Lecture Series with Naturalist, Keith Kridler, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, presenting "Bluebirds Chase My Blues Away."
Mr. Kridler is co-founder of the Texas Bluebird Society and co-author of The Bluebirds Monitor Guide. He maintains an extensive bluebird trail in northeast Texas with hundreds of nestboxes and lectures widely on the subject. He is also a Master Gardener, a commercial daffodil farmer, and an officer in the Texas Daffodil Society.
The Theresa and Lee Reeves Garden Lecture Series is generally held the third Thursday of each at the SFA Mast Arboretum. Refreshments are served by the SFA volunteers before the lecture with a rare plant raffle being held afterward. The lecture is free and open to the public.

International Migratory Bird Day Hornsby Bend Saturday, 14 May 2005
The monthly Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory Bird Survey takes place this Saturday May 14 at Hornsby Bend.
Since the 14th is International Migratory Bird Day, the public is encouraged to participate on novice to expert teams. Come help count the many migrants moving through Hornsby Bend. Gather at 6:30 a.m. for light breakfast at Hornsby Bend in the Center for Environmental Research. Morning survey begins at 7 a.m. with tally at 11 a.m. Also from CER building, the afternoon survey is 4 p.m. to sundown.
May survey leader is Mikael Behrens - mobile phone: (512)431-9136. Participants can contact Mikael or just show up at 7am or 4pm.
